General description
CREB-regulated transcription coactivator 1 (UniProt Q6UUV9; also known as Mucoepidermoid carcinoma translocated protein 1, TORC-1, Transducer of CREB protein 1, Transducer of regulated cAMP response element-binding protein 1) is encoded by the CRTC1 (also known as KIAA0616, MECT1, TORC1, WAMTP1) gene (Gene ID 23373) in human. CRTC1 belongs to a family of glycosylated Ser/Thr-rich phosphoproteins that bind the basic leucine zipper (bZIP) region of Ca2+/cAMP-responsive element-binding protein (CREB) and function as CREB coactivators. CRTCs participate in CREB-mediated transcriptions of both canonical cellular cAMP response elements (CREs) and the non-canonical viral CREs. CRTC1, specifically, is involved in CREB-mediated transcription of various neuronal immediate early genes (IEGs) as well as CREB-dependent hepatitis B virus (HBV) replication.
